- June 2008 - John Miller wins the 2008 Martin and Beatrice Fischer Award in Fiction at the 20th annual Canadian Jewish Book Awards

- October 2007: John begins researching and writing his 3rd novel (as of yet untitled)

- In 2007, through his consulting work, John travels to Mexico, Nicaragua, France, Switzerland, Senegal, and Kenya

- February 13 2007 - John launches his 2nd novel A Sharp Intake of Breath at the National Ballet School of Canada. Despite the blizzard that hit that night, over 100 people brave the elements to attend.

- January 2007 - A Sharp Intake of Breath published by the Dundurn Group

· Through consulting work with the Coalition on Children Affected by AIDS, John travels in 2005-06 to South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Thailand, India, Russia, the Netherlands and the US.

· April 2002 - John begins to work as an freelance consultant in policy and organizational development with non-profits, governments and some private sector companies.

· October 2002: Started researching and writing his 2nd novel, A Sharp Intake of Breath.

· On the cold and rainy evening of October 22nd, over 200 people attended the launch party at Alice Fazooli’s Italian Crabshack on Richmond Street in Toronto.

· The Featherbed is published in October 2002.

· John left the Ontario Civil Service in April 2002 and started a consulting practice. Two weeks later, he received a call from The Dundurn Group, asking to purchase his manuscript.

· Worked in policy development and program management for the Ontario Government’s Ministry of Community and Social Services from 1998-2002. Suffering through four years of Tory rule, he met great people and learned heaps.

· Began writing The Featherbed in September 1997. John took courses in the University of Toronto Creative Writing Program and the Toronto Writing Workshop that fall and winter.

· The American Journal of Hospice and Palliative Care published John's essay: “Hospice Care or Assisted Suicide: A False Dichotomy” Vol. 14, No. 3, May/June 1997, pp 132-134.

· Xtra! Published John's feature: “The Emperor Has No Condom: Gay Couples are Looking for a Way out of Safer Sex”, Vol. 15/08 No. 308, p. 15 (Toronto, Pink Triangle Press).

· FUSE Magazine published John's feature: “Embodying Shame and Fear: The Effects of Misogyny and Homophobia on Gay Men's Bodies”, Toronto, Vol. 18 no. 2 (Feb.), pp. 13-19.

· Xtra! Published John's 3- part series "What's Behind Closet Door Number 3?", 18/1/96, "Lifestyles of the Fabulous & Closeted", 1/2/96, & "No More Mr. Nice Guy: Bringing 'em Out in 10 Easy Steps", 15/2/96. (Toronto, Pink Triangle Press).

· John was Executive Director of Trinity Home Hospice in Toronto from 1994-1998. When they hired him, he was 26 years old.

· John worked at the AIDS Committee of Toronto in the spring of 1994, coordinating some of their practical assistance programs, and then writing a funding proposal for them that led to the now HIV/AIDS Legal Clinic of Ontario (HALCO).

· Quit his job and travelled in South-east Asia in the fall of 1993, along the way visiting friends he met at school in Holland.

· Counselled street youth involved in the sex trade industry at Street Outreach Services (Toronto) from 1992-93.

· Graduated from the Institute of Social Studies in The Hague, Netherlands in 1991 with an M.A. in International Development Studies. The school catered to mid-career professionals from all over the world who were looking to upgrade their academic qualifications.

· Graduated from McGill University in 1990 with an Honours B.A. in Geography of International Development.

· In 1986-87, John deferred his university acceptance and went to Zaire (now Democratic Republic of Congo) as a volunteer on the youth exchange program Canada World Youth. Met Mobutu Sese Seko while being paraded in front of Zairean national television cameras. Sese Seko expelled them from the country two months later, apparently because their group’s coordinator had insulted his wife.

· Went to a French language public school (École publique Gabrielle Roy), and then to Jarvis Collegiate Institute and its “Module français de langue secondaire”, which is now Le College Français

· Family moved to Ottawa in 1972 and then back to Toronto in 1976.

· Born in Toronto, Canada, on March 10th 1968, the second of three boys to Ruth Anne Miller (nee Kellermann) and Eric Miller.
